Have you, at any point, looked at where you are and felt that you should’ve or would’ve been further along or in a different place?
- Have you taken time to ask yourself, “WHY?”
- Have you asked the question posed on the cover of this document?
- What will it take to come up with some answers and steps that you can act upon?
Keep reading as I ask some questions that, when acted upon properly, will allow you to move the needle in a positive direction!
1) Have you conducted a Mindset Inventory?
One of my top coaching practices before moving into any new project with a client, as well as my own projects, is to complete a 3-step Mindset Inventory.
When accomplished properly, this can add a level of certainty to an often-unknown area of focus.
The first time completing the inventory exercise can take a little longer than subsequent iterations, but the time is well-spent no matter how long it takes or how many times it’s completed.
Getting the best results from this exercise requires an open mind and a level of honesty in your self-reflection.
2) Have you Defined Success for what you are wanting to accomplish?
I find that many times we are delayed in our success due to not actually defining what success looks like for the particular scenario.
When we define it and shape some form of measurement, we are then able to better focus our efforts on what is going to create the desired outcome.
When you properly complete this step, you are then able to move forward in creating goals, objectives and action steps to start the process.
3) Have you Determined Why it is important to be successful?
In any situation that we desire to be successful in, there is likely a deeper reason why we want to create that success.
The desire to be successful can be broken down through a series of simple questions, and telling responses, to get to the root of it all.
If you have ever completed a problem-solving exercise using the Ishikawa Diagram, named after Kaoru Ishikawa, you’ve basically walked out this exercise. You simply ask, “Why is [your response to previous question] important to you? With each response getting closer to the deep-rooted cause.
4) What are you Focusing on?
Perhaps you have heard the statement, as shared by Larry Kendall, John Maxwell or others, “What you focus on expands.” I find there to be no truer words when it comes to how our focus impacts outcomes.
So, I ask you to honestly and truly reflect on that statement, and ask yourself, “What am I focusing on?”
Do you focus on the positive or the negative? Do you focus on the outcome or the obstacle? Do you attend to all the noise or the needle-movers towards success (Pareto’s 80/20)?
Ask yourself these types of questions and then develop and take the needed actions to get the results you are after.
5) Are you Investing in yourself?
This can be a tough question, especially for entrepreneurs and business owners.
However, without investing in yourself through self-education, you are likely missing out on the opportunity to advance yourself and your business to the next level.
The self-education industry is growing at an unbelievable pace, so there is no excuse to not invest in some self-education. GlobeNewsWire reported in April 2020, that online learning is expected grow to more than $320 billion by 2025. You have opportunities.
What are you investing in to develop yourself so you can show up as your best, and do your very best daily?
