Top 3 Must-Share Items from the 2020 John Maxwell Team Virtual International Maxwell Certification Event #virtualeventoftheyear

For just about everyone around the world, 2020 has been a year for the history books. Most, if not all of the world was stricken and heavily impacted by COVID-19, the coronavirus. During this time, for one reason or another, life as we knew it came to a screeching halt. Many became ill, many deaths were recorded, many businesses were impacted and many shuttered due to the inability to make ends meet or make the changes necessary to continue operations.

There is so much more that could be said about the coronavirus, but the bottom line is that it had a significant impact on individuals, families, communities and businesses.

One of the impacts that I will share about is the cancellation of the March 2020 Live International Maxwell Certification (IMC) Event. John Maxwell as his leadership team weighed all the factors, considered health and safety warnings and the fact that our team is made up of over 26,000 members from many nations around the world. The event itself typically...

Do You Believe You Have a Story to Tell? Part Two...

In Part Two of this two-part article, I will share a valuable tool that anyone can use to initiate the discovery and development process to bring their story to life.

However, if you missed part one of the two-part article, you will want to go back and read it so you do not miss out on a valuable exercise to help you prepare for the battle within the mind.

To give a short recap of Part One of this article, I shared with you how each and everyone of us can take steps to create a proper mindset that will allow us to operate more effectively in basically any situation we face. A comment I frequently make when sharing about the mindset is, “No matter where you go, your mind is always there.” If we don’t prepare for the battle that is waged in our mind, the likelihood of difficulty and/or defeat are pretty high. When we get the mind right, everything else can start to fall into place. It takes intentional actions though. It doesn’t come easy.

Part One of the...

Do You Believe You Have a Story to Tell? Part One...

What did you think of when you read the title of this article…”Do You Believe You Have a Story to Tell?” Your thoughts could be a telling sign for what comes next. I know when I first explored that question, I did not think so. My life was not full of rocky roads, life-altering experiences or anything that I would consider monumental or worth telling.

What if I told you that there is someone out there that wants and needs to hear your story, what would you say to that? I did not believe that to be true either, until I had someone share how they came to discover their story, then shared it with me. I was then a believer, but it was not without obstacles.

As I speak with people on the topic of discovering and developing their story, I find that many of them are not “believers” in their story and their audience-in-wait. As a matter of fact, when I ask someone about their story, I typically receive some variation of the same general response.

I’d...

Is There a "Secret Sauce" for Leading During Turbulent Times

I was recently asked a question about leading in the workplace during turbulent times. The question was focused on the “secret” to keeping teams productive during periods of turbulence. If you’ve heard the excerpt from a conversation series with Wundamail Voices, you’ll know what the three things were that I spoke of. If not you did not hear it, or just want to get a deeper explanation, keep reading.

These have certainly been unprecedented times that neighborhoods, cities, states and countries around the world have had to navigate. In the midst of all the COVID-19 pandemic response measures, there has been economic uncertainty, employment nightmares, a strong outcry for justice and so much more. So, for those that are still working, albeit under a new set of rules, there was obviously a change in operating procedures that took place.

Many businesses were able to pivot (#mostusedword) during this period and have done fairly well, while others did not...

Momentum in Times of Crisis

business Jun 09, 2020

I was recently asked to provide my insight on the topic of businesses maintaining momentum during times of crisis, such as what we’ve experienced over the past several months. I want to share my response with you.

Everything that I have heard and read shows that during this crisis we are best served to think expansion not contraction. It seems that most people and businesses had to take a step back to assess the situation and develop a way forward. Those that took the step back, then made intentional strides forward have reported massive expansion and steady growth; however, those that were leveled by the crisis have had a harder time getting their legs back under them. I see that there is a difference in how various types of businesses have been able to weather the storm and get moving again. Some are slowly getting back after things, while there are some that have had to fold or put a halt to operations due to the crippling impact on their business.

So, for...

The Importance of Growth

From the time we are born, our lives are filled with growth—physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, social. With each level of growth, we develop new skills, talents and giftings that will serve as building blocks for the future growth. There comes a time though when our efforts to grow have to be more deliberate and focused.

There are many postings, articles, journals, books, videos, etc., that focus on how to grow in any number of areas or specialties. Some might think that in order to grow, you have to spend a lot of money on a program, or pay someone to help you grow. The reality is that if a person does not have the right mindset for growth, then all the programs, coaches and money spent on each, are not going to do a bit of good. In order to grow, there needs to be a desire, openness and an intentional effort for it to have a chance of succeeding. Carol Dweck and others have covered in multiple forums the difference between a fixed and growth mindset, and the importance...
